William Mitchell of Chester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025 at the VA Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served his country with honor.

Bill was married to the love of his life, Wanda (Fowler) Mitchell, for 52 devoted years. Together they built a loving family, including their children, Jennifer Henderson (Jim), Joshua, and their treasured grandsons, Beau and Beckett. He is also survived by his brothers, Randy (Kathy), Alan (Susan), and Tim (Julie), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maybell; father, Edward, Sr. ("Bubba"); and brother,Edward, Jr. ("Lucky").

A man of deep character, Bill was known for his resilience and unwavering love for his family. Despite being in a wheelchair for the past five years, he continued to travel, explore, and embrace life. He especially cherished his trips to visit family and friends. The Amish Country in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a place he visited twice each year, was a favorite of his.

Bill was passionate about the outdoors — hunting, fishing, and especially attending his grandsons' sporting events brought him great joy. He was a faithful member of Varina Baptist Church in Henrico, Virginia. His faith helped him through all of the health trials he experienced.

He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and perseverance.

There will be a visitation at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Randy Martin officiating with a visitation before the service at 1:45 PM at Askew Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
