William Roland "Bill" Massey, Jr., 80 of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away on Thursday August 6, 2020.
He was born in Northampton County to the late William Roland Massey, Sr. and Willie Ricks Massey and preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
William had a farming interest in Northampton County, was the founder and longtime owner and operator of the Ribeye Steak House in Roanoke Rapids, owner of many Esso/ Exxon gas stations, a former city council member and mayor of Roanoke Rapids, former Halifax County Commissioner, a longtime member and Deacon of Rosemary Baptist Church, and was a member of the Lakeland Singers.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Coker Massey, his two daughters, Lisa Massey Lynch of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Tammy Massey Jenkins and her husband, Andy of Jackson, NC; his sons, William R. Massey III and his wife, Robin of Pleasant Hill, NC; Bentley Massey and his wife Barbara of Wilson, NC; Al Massey of Denver, NC; Michael Massey of Phoenix, AZ and Brent Massey and his wife Patricia of Emerald Isle, NC; his thirteen grandchildren and his sixteen great grandchildren.
Visitation of friends and family will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 6:30 pm to 8pm at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 2pm at Rosemary Baptist Church with Dr. Layne Wallace officiating.
Entombment will follow immediately after the funeral services and will be held in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Due to COVID-19 all guests will be asked to sign the online guestbook at www.askewfs.com and will be asked to adhere to social distancing and CDC guidelines while attending the visitation, funeral service and graveside.
