William Ira "Bill" Harris Jr. July 13, 1957 - January 10, 2021 William Ira Harris Jr. of Halifax County, NC departed this earthly life, January 10, 2021. Born July 13th, 1957, he was the only son of Clara Isles Harris and William Ira "Pete" Harris. Bill is survived by his son, William Ira Harris, III of Raleigh, three sisters: Rita Harris of Raleigh, Miriam and Dan Kent of Wrightsville Beach, and Candace and Dan Belmonte of Raleigh; nieces and nephews: Ashley Kent and Kayleigh Edwards, Will Kent, Harrison Kent, Daniel Belmonte, Bennett Belmonte; and numerous cousins. Bill grew up on the Harris family farm in Halifax and graduated from Enfield Academy in Whitakers. He attended NC State University where he received a degree in Agriculture Science. Upon graduation, he served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, UT. After honorable service, he returned to Raleigh to work with the Flue-Cured Tobacco Cooperative Stabilization Corporation; until his retirement. Upon retirement, Bill returned to Halifax County to oversee the family farm and hunting club that exists today. Bill loved to tour the farm surveying the scenic terrain with his son, William, and boxers, Huey and Louie. Some of his most pleasurable moments were relaxing in the old farmhouse he restored and enjoying the view through the large living room window. Bill, known to most as "Wild Bill", had a sweet smile, the bluest eyes and baby smooth skin that was always splashed with cologne. He was quick to tell a joke or story, share a laugh, and entertain everyone he met. Bill loved people and getting together for good times. Bill lived a full life in the 63 years he was on this earth and he is now at peace in his Heavenly home with his mother, Clara, who passed September 28, 2020, and his father, Pete who passed November 1, 1974. A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 16, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield with social distancing and masks, please.
