Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Chockoyotte Country Club in Weldon, NC.
Mr. Brown was born in Roanoke Rapids, NC on January 19, 1958, to the late Sanford Miller and Joyce Witherspoon Brown. He attended Roanoke Rapids City Schools and graduated in 1976 from Roanoke Rapids High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball and tennis. He attended East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville, NC, majoring in Political Science. While at ECU, Wayne participated in many intramural sports and most significantly, met his future bride, Cindy Jamieson. After graduation in 1980, Wayne began his professional career and was married to the love of his life on July 11, 1981 in Greenville. Wayne and Cindy moved to Roanoke Rapids in 1983 where Wayne began a lifelong insurance career; first working with Jefferson Standard Insurance Co. and later purchasing his own property and casualty agency, Proctor-Owen Insurance. He eventually sold the agency to BB&T Insurance Services and served as Agency Manager with the company before retiring in 2017. He and Cindy moved full-time to Lake Gaston in 2013, where Wayne enjoyed all lake activities with his family and many friends, making happy memories, boating and floating.
He was passionately devoted to his family and strong in his faith. He attended Lake Gaston Baptist Church. Wayne always remained active in sports, most of all as an avid golfer. He was a long-time member of Chockoyotte Country Club. As a loyal and bold ECU fan, he loved tailgating and attending all sporting events at ECU. Wayne was a beach music lover, spending much time on his dock, listening to his favorite music. He was also very civic-minded, serving as a member of the Jaycees and as an ECU Pirate Club representative for many years. He also served on many boards, including the Roanoke Rapids Planning Board and the Chockoyotte Country Club Board. He coached both of his children, David and Kathryn in many youth sports throughout their childhood, following them wherever their sports took them. He never missed a game! He was honored as a recipient of the NC Governor's Volunteer Service Award for his generosity as a volunteer. He was a kind, gentle, and loving man who will be greatly missed by so many!
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Cindy Jamieson Brown; a son, David Miller Brown of Knightdale, NC; a daughter, Kathryn Morris Bruenn and her husband, Patrick of Goldsboro, NC, and a precious granddaughter, Hayley Adair Bruenn, who lovingly called him "Papa"; and a brother, Sanford (Sandy) Miller Brown and his husband, Randy Chapple of Charlotte, NC.
He is also survived by many cousins, several brothers and sisters-in-law and some very special friends he considered family.
The family has requested that in-lieu of flowers, contributions be made to a charity close to one's heart. The family also requests that you wear bold and bright colors, especially his favorite purple and gold to the service and celebration in his memory.
