Virginia Lou Walston Wright, 90, of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family at her bedside on May 5, 2025. She was born on March 30, 1935 in Wayne County, NC to Joseph Willam Walston and Retha Virgina Bell Walston.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Walston, her mother, Retha Walston, brothers, Joseph (Buddy) Walston, and Danny Keith Walston.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Randolph Carson Wright; daughters, Cynthia Lou Wright Collins (Russ), June Alice Wright Wood (John) and Wendy Gayle Wright Edwards (Mark); her sister, Agnes Walston Harris; grandchildren, Christopher D. Wright (Patricia), Adam B. Wright, George Russell Collins (Lindsey), Richard Samuel Collins (Nicole), Tina Lynn Wood Beaulieu (Michael), Jeremy David Wood, Christiopher Lee Biagi, Jr. (Jamie), Robin Michael Biagi; great grandchildren, Jackson Wright, Olivia Wright, Amelia Wright, Ella Collins, Silas Collins, Rynn Collins, Laura Collins, Samuel Collins, Brandon Duff (Jaime), Riley Wood Widder, Clarrisa Edwards, Brittany Edwards, Stephen Edwards, Jr.; great-great grandchildren, Adelaide and Thomas Duff, Lucas Salfamoser, Riley Salfamoser, Caled Harris and Novalee Harris; grand dogs, Annie, Katie, Susie, Rosie, Charlie, Luke, Madison, Tinkerbell, Charlie, Roscoe, and Shelly Peanut and numerous nieces and nephews.
Virginia graduated from William R. Davie High School in 1953. She was a member of South Rosemary United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She worked as a secretary at J.P. Stevens, Stokes Distributing, Allsbrook, Benton, Knott and Cranford Law Offices, Whitakers Law Office, Roanoke Rapids City Manager Secretary, and retired as Fire Chief Secretary. She was a member of the PSI (Professional Secretaries International), taught shorthand at Halifax Community College, was a member of the local Roanoke Valley Doll Club, and an avid sewer of dolls and doll clothes.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services on May 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM followed by a short visitation with the family after the service. Graveside services and burial (for family only) will be on May 9, 2025
at 11:30 AM at Freemont Cemetary in Freemont, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made in memory of our mother to St. Jude, stjude.org for Neuroblastoma research.
