Virgie Balmer Thacker, 78, died Sunday, August 09,2020, at her home in Roanoke Rapids.
Virgie was born in Northampton County, NC, March 04, 1942, daughter to the late Robert Lewis Balmer and Addie Virginia Dunlow Balmer. She loved to fish, go to the beach and shopping, but she especially loved being a loving wife, mother and Nanny to all her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her son, James Lewis Thacker, Jr., and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her husband, James Lewis Thacker, Sr. of the home; daughter, Brenda T, Brickhouse and Rudy Thompson of Roanoke Rapids; brothers, Dennis Balmer and wife, Wendy, of Gaston, Earl Balmer and wife, Mary of Emporia, VA; sisters, Alice Deane and husband, Edward, of Ruckersville, VA, Marie Melvin and husband, Marvin of Roanoke Rapids; 5 grandchildren, Jessica Pittman and husband, Justin, Erin Brickhouse, Chris Thacker and wife, Ashley, Steven Thacker and wife, Katlin, Anthony Thacker and Monica Thompson. Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Askew Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, Wednesday, August 12, 2020, from 7-8:30 pm. Rev. Randy Martin will conduct funeral services in the chapel at Askew Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
