IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vasilios
Frangos
October 8, 1944 – February 1, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vasilios Frangos. He was born on the Island of Karpathos in the Village of Spoa on October 8, 1944 and was preceded in death by his parents, Minas N. Frangos and Anna.
He is survived by his wife, Maria and 3 children, Minas, Anna, and George, along with his wife Terra; his 2 grandchildren, Vasilios and Maria; and his five siblings Evdoxia, Nikolaos, Maria, Evgenia, and Emmanuel. He immigrated to the USA after serving in the Greek Armed Forces with nothing but determination and hope in his heart. He found a home place in Brooklyn, NY along with many of his village people where he built a legacy rooted in hard work, integrity, and devotion to his family. His humble beginning in the USA started with Vasilios working in Greek diners as a short order cook. After some years, he proceeded along with his brothers to own/operate a Greek social club so all the villagers could have a place to come together and reminisce on the memories they made back home. In 1980, he returned back to his homeland where he met and wed the love of his life, Maria. From there, they moved back to NY continuing in the restaurant business. Eventually he made the bold decision to relocate to NC for the betterment of his family's future, again continuing to serve his community as a restaurateur which gave him immense joy and success. He never measured success in wealth or status, but in the love he gave and the kindness he showed. His life was a testament to the power of perseverance, humility, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of people. To his family, he was a guiding light—gentle, patient, and endlessly giving. He taught us that true strength lies in kindness and that love is best expressed through actions. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the values he lived by will remain with us forever as well as his stories, poetry, and song. The viewing will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
Vasilios will then be returning to his native home in Spoa, Karpathos for burial.
Rest peacefully. You gave this world your very best and in doing so, you made it a better place. Your love will continue to guide us always.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you please, make a contribution to a charity of your choice in honor of Vasilios.
