Thomas Lee (“Tommy”) Hubbard, 81, of Gaston, North Carolina, died at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehab Center in Weldon on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Tommy passed away peacefully in his sleep following a brief encounter with brain cancer. He was a native of Northampton County, born to the late Robert Joseph and Lucille Porch Hubbard.
Tommy was also preceded in death by his wife, Camille Bobbitt Hubbard and his siblings, Franklin Delano (F. D.) Hubbard, Robert J. Hubbard, Jr., Gertrude H. Bennett, Pauline H. Sandeford, and Barbara Ann H. Floyd.
Among his survivors are his sister-in-law, Gwendolyn C. Hubbard of Littleton, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Bruce Bobbitt (Vickie) of Chase City, Virginia; and sister-in-law, Diana Bobbitt of Littleton, North Carolina; as well as many nieces and nephews. Remaining to cherish his memory are lifelong friends and supporters, Bobby and Jean Colston, as well as a special neighbor and caregiver, Ashley Ferguson.
Tommy retired from a lifelong career in the textile manufacturing business, serving as a machine operator and rising through the ranks to become a shift supervisor in several textile operations in Roanoke Rapids and Emporia. In his spare time, and following retirement, Tommy was an avid fisherman and traveled with his wife to the coast and mountains enjoying the scenery and shopping for bargains.
Rev. Norma Roberts will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Shiloh Methodist Church in Gaston, with burial to follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church.
Funeral arrangements are being provided by locally owned and operated Askew Funeral Services of Roanoke Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shiloh Methodist Church.
