Obituary

Nina L. Lucas passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in 1935 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Inez Lewis. Nina graduated from Aurelian Springs High School and trained to be a nurse, caring for others with compassion, kindness, and generosity.

In 1957, she married Leon Joyner Lucas and lovingly embraced her role as a devoted farm wife and stepmother. Following Leon’s passing, Nina continued to manage the farm, demonstrating quiet strength and perseverance.

Nina’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active and cherished member of Community Center Baptist Church. Her family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and care shown by her church family, neighbors, and niece, Joan Hicks during her illness.

Above all, Nina treasured her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she took immense joy in watching them grow. Nina is survived by her stepchildren, Leon, Alice, and Donald; her five grandchildren; her six great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Dorothy, Jeanette, Billy, and Jimmy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Emily.
