It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Myrtle Nowell of Weldon,

NC. Myrtle passed away peacefully at her home on June 16, 2025, surrounded

by her loved ones.

A devoted hairdresser by profession, Myrtle had a deep love for the beach and

enjoyed collecting seashells, painting, singing, playing the harmonica, and

traveling. She was affectionately known as Momma, Gooey, Grandma, and

Amma.

Myrtle was born on May 4, 1940, in Roanoke Rapids, NC, to the late Virginia Lee

Hewitt and Johnny Jerdan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband,

Floyd W. "Pete" Nowell, and her son, David Carlton Nowell, Sr. (Nancy).

She is survived by her children; Julie N. Perry (Jason), Sheryl N. Clark (Karl),

and Paul Nowell. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Becky Rightmyer

(Michael), Cara Plyler, William Mincher, Joey Elias (Jessica), Josh Clark (Mandy),

Dana Nowell, and David Nowell, Jr.; and by her great-grandchildren, Kendall

Hathaway, Kennedy Hathaway, Lisa Simms (Kris), Brittney Rightmyer (Brandon),

Staci Snyder (Kenny), Brayson Oliver, Kayli Oliver, Caleb Elias, Collin Elias,

Delaney Oliveros (Tommy), Alex Clark, Holden Clark, Jayce Jacobs, Skyla

Nowell, and Layla Nowell; and three great-great grandchildren.

Myrtle is also survived by her two loving sisters, Evelyn and Mickey, and her dear

friend and companion, Bobby Birdsong.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jamie, Jennifer, Mandy,

and the entire team at Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care and support

during Myrtle's final months.

The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from

12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services with a funeral

service to be held at 2:00 PM with Pastor Charlie Carter officiating. Burial will be

held at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC immediately following the service.
