Melvin Lee Gilliam, 70, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at his home.

He was born in Halifax County on July 13, 1952 to the late Robert Eugene and Nellie Carrol Gilliam and was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Rose Gilliam.

He is survived by his son, Ricky Gilliam and his fiance' Ashley Deaton whom he adored; his sister Barbara Reese Scalf and her husband, Wayne.

Melvin served his country in the United States Army.  He enjoyed, fishing, hunting and the last few years enjoyed sitting at the Roanoke River watching nature.
