Melvin Joseph Doyle, 84, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, passed away at home on Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Melvin was born on August 3, 1938, to the late Peter and Essie Williams Doyle.

After graduation from Roanoke Rapids High School, he enlisted in the Army for 2 years. Melvin returned to Roanoke Rapids, NC and was employed with International Paper. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing softball for his dad's team. He also enjoyed running and competed in 350 races from Annapolis, Maryland to Savanah, Georgia. In recent years, he competed in the Senior Games in Durham, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brothers, William Thomas Doyle and Gene Doyle.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances "Murphy" Kidd Doyle; his son Ashley Doyle and wife Rachel of Wilson, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Carolyn Kidd Taylor and husband Paul of Roanoke, Virginia; nephews, Matthew Taylor and wife, Jennifer, and Alan Taylor also of Roanoke, Virginia, Peter Doyle and wife Genevieve of Atlanta, Georgia, Paul Doyle of Idaho, and John Doyle and his wife, Shae of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 6 at 2 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
