Matthew Wade Johnson

Matthew (Matt) Johnson, 34, of Franklinton, NC and formerly of Roanoke Rapids, NC died tragically the morning of April 5, 2024, at his home.  Matthew was born February 1, 1990. He graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School in 2008 and was selected to the All-State Band 5 years in a row.  In 2012, he graduated with honors from UNC-G and was employed by PruittHealth Pharmacy in Durham, NC.

Matthew, a gifted musician mastered playing many instruments. He enjoyed video games, loved spoiling his furbaby - Faith, spending time with his family and building a home with his best friend, Will Hulme.

Left to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life; his parents, Greg and Stephanie Horvath and his brother, Marcus Horvath, all of Garysburg, NC; grandparents, Gary (Rummy) and Vicki Jones of Roanoke Rapids and TJ and Margie Horvath of Garysburg, NC; his father and stepmother, Wade and Darlene Johnson; his grandmother, Betty Johnson; his brother, Jarrett Johnson, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Chris and Hazel Horvath and Kim Poythress, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC along with several cousins.  Matthew was preceded in death by his uncle, Marcus Jones and grandfather, Harry Johnson.

Matthew's family will receive friends and family on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, NC with Pastor Jeremy Kobernat officiating.
