Martha Elizabeth Barnett Hartsoe, 94, of Greenville, NC, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at MacGregor Downs Health Center of Greenville.

Martha was born on July 25, 1930 in Halifax County, NC to the late James Roy and Gracie Miles Barnett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Garland Otto Hartsoe; daughter, Yvonne Hartsoe Conner; granddaughter, Bonnie Conner McCollough; sister, Reva Mae Jones, and many special cousins.

Martha was known by many names including Mama, Grandma, Nana, Cowboy, and Aunt Moppy. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and family. Everyone who met her loved her dearly and those who were special to her received the name "Darlin'". She loved going to the beach, shopping with her three daughters, spending time with her family, and talking on the phone with her sisters and cousin. She loved to do yard work and ran a tight ship at home- nothing was ever out of place. Everything she did, she did with precision, dedication, and with love. As her Alzheimer's progressed, she was still thankful for anything anyone did for her- even in her final days. She was a favorite resident amongst retirement home staff, where she was known for her sweet demeanor and her occasional sassy comment.

Martha is survived by her two daughters, Beth Hartsoe Shadrick of Winterville, NC and Gracie (Lynn) Goins of Raleigh, NC; her sister, Carol Williams of Winterville, NC; her eight grandchildren, Marc Conner, Bryan Conner, Martha Heaton, Blake Conner, Lynn Goins, Joe Goins, Hart Evans, Grace Evans Horn; special niece, Susan Williams Britt; 18 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services at 731 Roanoke Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, with the service immediately following, officiated by Chaplain Steven Gay.

Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC.
