Margarettsville, NC- Margaret Avent Edwards slipped peacefully into heaven at age 96, Monday, May 18, 2020, at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. She was born, August 28, 1923, and lived her whole life in the Chitty's Fork community, between Margarettsville and Severn. She was the daughter to the late Joshua Jack and Martha Elizabeth Oliver Avent. Mrs. Edwards was the oldest living member (over 74 years) of Sharon United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Thomas Edwards, Sr. and her son, Harry Thomas Edwards, Jr. Surviving are her nephews, Darryl Edwards and wife, Ann, and Michael Edwards and wife, Reginia; nieces, Gloria Edwards Ross and husband, Charlie, Cathy Edwards Corey and husband, Karl; special first cousin, Mary Meade Cuthriell, cousin, June Paige Tyler Davis and cousin-in-law, Albert Barnes. Also surviving is her beloved parrot, Baby Bird and many other special cousins. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Michael Alston and the nurses, doctors and staff at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital for their love and care given to Mrs. Edwards. Also, another special thanks to her caregiver, Elsie Cumbo. The family will have a private service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Edwards in the chapel at Askew Funeral Service- Jackson Chapel, Jackson, NC. Burial will follow in Severn Cemetery. Due to Covid- 19 restrictions handed down by the CDC, the funeral home will control group gatherings to a limited number and recognize social distancing. Also, the public is encouraged to sign the online register book at www.askewfs.com. A register book will not be at the funeral home or gravesite.
