Lelia "Faye" Hunsucker Carter, 74, of Roanoke Rapids, peacefully passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville with her family by her side.
Faye, a native of Gaston, was the daughter of the late John F. Hunsucker and Ethel Hamby Hunsucker. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young girl at Gaston Church of Christ and later became a member of New Testament
Christian Church. She graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1969 of Gaston High School and graduated from East Carolina University in 1979 with a degree in mental retardation. She had a 44 year career of teaching, program coordinator at Caswell Center, Roanoke Rapids Graded School District, and retired from O'Berry Center in Goldsboro in 2001. After retirement, Faye continued to work at O'Berry until she came to work as CAP trainer for her special needs niece, Courtney Hunsucker in 2004. Faye was known to say many times, "if you want to have a wonderful life, it must be in service to others who cannot help themselves". She was a very caring, compassionate person who spent her entire life giving all of herself to better other people's lives.

Hunsucker, Sr. (Norma Jean) of Roanoke Rapids, who also left her too soon. She was also preceded in death by a beloved nephew, Jeffrey S. Hunsucker.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Norma (Jeanie) Hunsucker who she lived with after her husband passed; niece Courtney Hunsucker, niece Kelly Hunsucker Davis of Raleigh and her husband, Chris Davis and their children Quinn and Raven; nephew John T. Hunsucker, Jr. of Smithfield and his children Matt Hunsucker (wife Sara) and Jeana Hunsucker; nephew Nathan Hunsucker and his mother, Angie Sanders Whitaker of Amelia, VA; sister-in-law Betty Jean Hunsucker of Zebulon and her girls Jane Riggs, Wanda Daniels, and Brenda Deal; stepdaughter, Shelia Love and stepson, Ricky Carter (wife Dale) of Whitakers; three step grandchildren, a lifelong best friend and sister by heart, Becky Seuis (husband John Irvin) of Gaston; special friends, Lisa Wade Hunsucker, Maxie and Joy Clippard, Mary Mills, Elizabeth Mayton, and Sue Potter of Kinston; special caregivers who were like family, Laverne Taylor and Doris Tann; and several cousins.
