Kenneth Earl "Hoot" Gibson, 73, of Roanoke Rapids, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, with his family by his side.

He was a native of Halifax County and was the son of the late Raymond Earl Gibson and Carolyn Chambliss Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Gibson and his step grandson, Bentley Emery.

Kenny served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. He received a Purple Heart and was an expert rifleman during his service in Vietnam. He was a member of VFW post 3702, Roanoke Rapids.

He loved to fish, play pool, golf, cards and softball back in the day. Kenny was also an avid Kanas City Chiefs fan.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah "Nickie" Evans and her husband, Danny of Rocky Mount, his step-daughter, Candy Taylor and her husband, Mikey of Littleton, step son Rodney Ashby of Virginia Beach, Virginia, his girlfriend, Pat Price and his special canine, "Sissy"; his sisters, Kathy Abernathy and her husband, Wayne, Kerry Kidd and her husband, Dean; brother, Kevin Gibson and his wife, Marcia "Monk"; grandchildren, Joshua Stallings, Aleigha Johnson and her fiance', Trey Kelley; great grandchildren, Noah Stallings, Josiah Kelley, Jace Kelley, Laila Stallings, Grey Stallings, and Chance Stallings; three step grandchildren, Colin Ashby, Marisa Merritt, Christian Emery and Zachary Carter; step great-grandchildren, Asher Merritt, Jackson Newsome and Khlyer Emery; and his very special sister-in-law, Rita McCullom; brother-in-law, Russell Harris.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 5:00 PM with Rev. Wayne Marshall officiating in the chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
