Julian Weathers Shearin

February 8, 1936- March 6, 2025

Julian Weathers Shearin 89, of Halifax, passed away on Thursday March 6, 2025. He was a native of Roanoke Rapids and the son of the late James Wallace Shearin and Livvie Modlin Shearin. He was preceded in death by his sister Norma Shearin Capps.

He grew up in Roanoke Rapids and graduated in 1954 from Roanoke Rapids High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. His decision was based on two special uncles who served in France during WWII. Latt Harris "Harvey" Shearin, Jr. who was killed during Battle of the Bulge and David Loy Shearin.

While in the Marines he attained the rank of Sergeant and served as a C341 mortarman with the 2nd Marine Division Camp Lejeune and the 3rd Marine division in Okinawa, Japan and the Philippine Islands. He was stationed with the 8th and I Marine Barracks where he received the highest security clearance while serving as a guard for President Dwight D. Eisenhower at the White House and Camp David, Maryland. He claimed one of his proudest moments in life was when his grandson, Michael W. Shearin II, joined the Marines. This allowed Julian to return to his beloved Parris Island to witness his grandson's graduation from boot camp.

After receiving an honorable discharge he attended East Carolina University. Julian worked for the United States Post Office as a letter carrier, Superintendent of Postal Operations and retired as Postmaster of Weldon.

An avid fisherman and hunter, he was awarded the Woodmen of the World Life Saving Award for saving a drowning man at Roanoke Rapids Lake. He received the patriotism award from the Sons of the American Revolution.

He is survived by his son Michael W.Shearin and his wife Jan of Halifax; his grandchildren Michael W. Shearin II and his wife Savannah of Halifax, Meghan Allen and her husband Marcus of Littleton. Great grandchildren Michael W. Shearin III and Maci Shearin of Halifax. A sister Dianne Shearin Kidd and her husband Wray of HIgh Point. He is also survived by his estranged son, Julian W. (JW) Shearin II. of Cary.
