Britton
October 1, 1930 – September 17, 2023
Julia Marie Barnes Britton, 92, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2023 at the Northampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jackson, NC.
Julia was born October 1, 1930 in Northampton County to the late Frank Albert Barnes and Maggie Davis Barnes. She was a faithful Christian woman who loved and served her Lord and Savior, her church, her family and her community.
Julia was a graduate of Jackson High School and Chowan College (now Chowan University). She was a dedicated member of Galatia Baptist Church. She served in a variety of positions including church clerk, Vacation Bible School teacher, secretary-treasurer of the prayer group and Wonderful Wednesday team member. She was Women on Missions Director from 1982 until 2002. She and her husband taught the young adult Sunday School class for over forty years. They also delivered meals on wheels. They visited the shut-ins, those in the nursing homes, and the sick faithfully. Julia was a wonderful cook who fed her family at home and in the fields on the family farm. She made countless sweet potato pies for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of sixty-four years, Henry Grady Britton, Jr. and her sisters-in-law, Millie Britton and Shelby Britton. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Donna Britton Davis (Mike) of Pendleton; her son, David Britton (Susan) of Pendleton; her grandchildren, Allison B. Wagner (Brandon) of Moseley, VA, Michael Davis (Ellen of Conway, Alex Britton (Sarah Grace) of Conway, and Hillary D.
