Joseph Hudson Rose, 94, of Pendleton passed away Thursday October 20, 2022 at ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

He was born July 21st, 1928 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Joseph, also known as "Joe" to family & friends, "Grandjoe" to grandchildren, was the 2nd oldest of 5 children and was the last surviving child of Joshua & Lucy "Belle" Rose.

Serving his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict, Joe was able to assist Okinawa with telecommunications, allowing the island to communicate via phones. After his honorable discharge, he moved back to Portsmouth, VA & worked with the telephone company.

When he had the chance to retire or learn how to use a computer system, he chose retirement, which consisted of fishing, gardening and sitting under the "shade tree." He took great pleasure in sharing the fruits of his labor, from watermelons to garden peas and everything in between. Always reaching out to neighbors and widowers, Joe gave anything he could to help out.

Married to Janice Vinson Rose for 60+ years, they welcomed a daughter, Donna Davis (Mike) of Portsmouth, VA and a son, Joseph Hudson Rose Jr (Leeann) of Pendleton, NC. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Matthew Scott Hardison (Mary Hunter), Allison Hardison LeGrande (Mike), Casey Rose Thomas, Jo Ann Forbes (Cliff), Willie Joshua Rose (Morgan) and 5 great-grandchildren: Ben & Hattie Jane Hardison, Finn Thomas, Hart LeGrande, and Polly Rose Forbes.

The service will consist of a memorial for Janice Rose as well, due to Covid restrictions preventing a service at her passing on July 27, 2020.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Conway Cemetery in Conway, North Carolina with Rev. Matthew Dupoy officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
