James Lewis Thacker, Sr., 87, died Wednesday, November 20,2024, at his daughter's home in Roanoke Rapids.

James was born in Gasburg, VA, November 08, 1937, son to the late Lonnie James Thacker and Martha Cannon Thacker. James was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Virgie Thacker, son, James Lewis Thacker, Jr.

Surviving are his daughter, Brenda T. Brickhouse and Rudy Thompson of Roanoke Rapids; 5 grandchildren, Jessica Pittman and husband, Justin, Erin Lassiter and husband Josh, Chris Thacker and wife, Ashley, Steven Thacker and wife, Katlin, Anthony Thacker and his wife Monica Thacker. Also surviving are 12 great grandchildren, his sisters, Hazel White and her husband, Wayne and Mae Smith both of Roanoke Rapids, dear friends of the family Jordyn Bishop and Stephaine Mitchell.

The family will receive friends at Askew Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1-2:00 pm. Funeral services in the chapel at Askew Funeral & Cremation Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
