James Wayne Short, 75, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026. He was a devoted husband, a proud dad, and granddad, and a friend to many.

Wayne married Alice Mustian in 1972 and together they built a life and raised three children. Over their 54 years of marriage, theirs was a life filled with family, hard work, laughter, and the kind of love that shows itself simply by being there.

Wayne was a man who loved deeply and lived fully. He took great pride in his family and found particular joy in being a granddad. He leaves behind the people he loved, the lessons he taught, and more than a few stories that will be told for years to come.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Alice; his children, Jim Short (Brandi), Brian Short (Jennifer), and Susan Buenaventura (Patrich); his cherished grandchildren, Bella Short, Tristan Short, and McKenna Buenaventura; his brother, Dwight Short (Andrea); his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis Mustian (Brenda) and Steve Hunter (Ellen); and many special nieces and nephews and their families, who were also an important part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alma Short.

At Wayne’s request, there will be no formal service. His family will celebrate his life at a future date in a way that feels fitting for the man he was.
