James "Billy" William Griffith, 83, of Littleton, NC, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024 at ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro, NC.
Billy was born in Manny's Neck Township, just outside of Murfreesboro, NC on Sunday, March 2, 1941 to the late Nathaniel Griffith and Lucille Hedgepeth Vann. He was preceded in death by his first wife, June Davis Griffith of Seaboard; his sisters, Bertha Griffith, Annie Vann, Mildred Griffith, and Joyce Casper; his brothers, Daniel Griffith, Edward Griffith, Ray Griffith, and Duke Griffith. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Nina Porter Armstrong of Littleton where Billy continued to live until his untimely passing.
Billy was raised in his teenage years on a farm by his brother, Edward Griffith, who taught him the value of hard work and valuable life lessons, such as the importance of family. Billy then joined the Army and served six years as a mechanic. After his military service, he had a long career as an industrial forklift mechanic. He loved to do woodworking and crafts in his spare time and during his retirement. He was also known to lend a helping hand to everyone that needed him while offering a smile and a kind word. He loved to fish and spend time with his family.
Billy is survived by his two brothers, Dennis Griffith and Bobby Griffith both of Murfreesboro, son, Richard "Ric" William Griffith of Weldon; his daughter, Victoria Lynn Griffith Moore; his step-sons, Charles "Chuck" Phillip Armstrong and his wife, Wendy of Holly Springs and Robert Lee Armstrong, Jr. of Halifax; his step daughter, Connie Moss and her husband, Roy of Emporia VA; his grandchildren, Gregory Adam Byers and his wife, Kelly, William Coleman Smith, Charles Lee Smith, Chelsea Anne Armstrong, Allison Mya Armstrong, Chloe Mae Armstrong; great- grandchildren, Michaela Elizabeth Armstrong, Christa Nicole Spruill, Jenna Louise Armstrong, McKenna Grace Simpson, and Brenna Jae Armstrong along with special friends, Charla Lyons and Carrie Deese, along with many nieces and nephews including Tim Vann and wife Betty of Murfreesboro, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in the chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the John 3:16 Center in Littleton and Roanoke Rapids.
