Irene May Martin, 88, of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Born on November 21, 1933 in Pine Island, NY, she was youngest of Rose Pason's and Daniel G. Donetz' nine children. Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Donald Jackson Martin, Sr. They met in early November, 1955 and were married four weeks later. Don and Irene raised their three sons, Donald Jr (Sylvia), Patrick (Jo), and Thomas (Elaine) in Little Falls, NJ. The always loving mother worked as a soldering technician when time allowed to help make ends meet. Her many hobbies reflect this small motor skill expertise including sewing, crochet, drawing, jigsaw puzzles, and adult coloring books. She also enjoyed playing softball and, of course, winning at Bingo. She loved to entertain and her homemade perogies and pies will be missed by many. Don and Irene moved to a house on Lake Gaston, NC in 1999 where they quickly made many friends on the lake and at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. It is here that they enjoyed many good times with their grandchildren, Kelly, Patrick, Valerie, Meghan, Julie and Brianne. She will remain forever in our hearts. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Church, 900 Hamilton Street in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. A committal service will immediately follow at the church's columbarium where she will join the love of her life, Don, forever.
