A private graveside service was held for Ruth Hedspeth Joyner, 90, of Weldon who passed away on November 18, 2023.

Ruth was born January 27, 1933 to Lokie and Virgie Hedspeth of Northampton County, North Carolina. She earned her B.S. in English at East Carolina Teacher's College. She went on to obtain two Master's degrees at East Carolina University in Education and Counseling.

Ruth worked for the state of North Carolina in various fields, including teaching English and high school guidance counseling. During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul H. Joyner, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Joyner Allen and grandchildren, Katie Walker, Emily Lyles and her husband, Colby; two great-grandchildren, all of Roanoke Rapids; a niece, several nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Desiree Wiltsie, her part time care-giver and friend for many years.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Weldon Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
