July 3, 1944 – January 16, 2026
Grace Drew Reavis, 81, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, following an extended illness from rheumatoid arthritis and pneumonia.
She was born to the late G. E. Drew and Eva Drew of Magnolia, NC. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Macon Reavis; a son, Drew Reavis (Paula) of Augusta, Missouri and daughter, Shana Reavis of the home. She is also survived by a sister, Anne Johnson (Dean) and nieces, Nicole and Ashley, all of Wilmington.
Grace is a graduate of James Kenan High School where she was a homecoming queen; a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in primary education; and a graduate of Campbell University with a master’s degree in primary education.
Grace was a beloved first grade teacher for 41 years, most of which was in the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District. She was affectionately referred to as being able to teach a turnip to read. She often commented that reading was the basis for all education. Grace was also a long-time member of the teaching sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK).
Grace was a proud member of East Tenth Street Christian Church where she previously served in the primary church program.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids from 6:00 until 7:30 PM.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at East Tenth Street Christian Church with Rev. Jason Yeatts presiding.
Graveside services will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
Flowers are always appreciated but the family would prefer donations to East Tenth Street Christian Church.
