Gloria Jean Carter Ricks 78, of Rich Square died Monday August at Vidant North Hospital. She was born on December 25, 1942 to the late William Edward and Stella Inez Smithson Carter. She was retired as the long time Secretary from Rich Square-Creecy Elementary School and she was also a member of Rich Square Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Phillip Lee Ricks, Sr; her two daughters, Phyllis Ricks Cannon and her husband Steve of Roanoke Rapids and Susan Ricks Camden and her husband, Sid of Smith Beach, Virginia; her son Phil Ricks and his wife Mary of Halifax; five grandchildren, Tyler Camden, Ryan Camden, Carter Ricks, Kayleigh Widner and her husband, Hunter and Cody Cannon; her brother, Don Carter and his wife, Teresa of Portsmouth, Virginia. A Graveside service will be held at 11 am on Thursday September 2, 2021 at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square with Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services-Jackson Chapel. The family ask that everyone attending the visitation please wear a mask before entering the Funeral Home.
