George Wayne Long 72 of Halifax died Thursday June 17, 2021 at his home with his family by his side. Wayne was born in Halifax County to the late George Franklin and Gladys Rachel Davis Long. He was also preceded in death by his wife Diane Long and his brother Earl Long. He served his County in the United States Airforce. He worked for many years at the Post office in Roanoke Rapids before becoming the Post Master in Halifax for the remainder of his career before retiring. He is survived by his daughter, Christina Long Keeran Lloyd Eyler of North Lewisbug, Ohio; his son Chris Long and Freda Rawlings of Halifax; his grandson, Owen Wayne Eyler of North Lewisburg, Ohio' his sisters, Elaine Long Clemmons and her husband, Gene and Glenda Long Forbes both of Roanoke Rapids and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Saturday June 19, 2021 in the Chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids at 2 pm with Rev. Randy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. In lieu of Flowers memorial donations may be made to Relay for life or the American Cancer Society.
