George W. Lewis, 89, of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away on January 23, 2021. George was born on May 12, 1931 to the late George W. Lewis Sr. and Effie Manning Lewis. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. George retired from the US Army in 1968 after 20 years of service having served in Korea and Vietnam among other locations. Following his retirement from the military he went on to work for the North Carolina Natural Gas Company for 23 years and retired in 1991. George is survived by his sons William G. Lewis of Montgomery, Alabama and Richard M. Lewis and his wife Patricia of Wales, Maine, his sister-in-law Gail Lane of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a niece, two nephews, a great-niece and great nephew. In addition to his parents George was predeceased by his wife of 43 years Linda Lane Lewis, his sister Billie Martin, his brother Arnold D. Lewis, his brother-in-law Al Lane and an infant son. A Graveside service with Military honors will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 2 pm at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with the Reverend Randy Martin officiating.
