IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick Harrison
Gregory
September 27, 1934 – June 16, 2024
On the morning of June 16, 2024, Frederick Harrison Gregory passed away at his home in Havre de Grace, MD after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 89 years old.
Fred was born in Halifax, NC on September 27, 1934 to Arthur and Ruth Gregory. As a young boy he worked on his dad's farm, delivered milk from their dairy, delivered newspapers, and drove a school bus. While vacationing in Nags Head, NC, Fred met the love of his life, Charlotte, and they were married in 1957. They raised three children, Ruth (Ed) of Wilmington, DE, Frederick, Jr. (Kathy) of Houston, TX, and William (Dana) of St. Petersburg, FL.
In 1956 he graduated from NC State University in Raleigh with a BS in Engineering and a MS in Engineering in 1958. He served two years in the Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, where he rose to the rank of Captain in the Army Reserves. He continued working as a civilian at Aberdeen Proving Ground for 43 years until 2003. After retirement from APG, he served as a consultant for Survice Engineering at Bel Camp, MD. For most of his career, Fred worked as a structural engineer, strengthening combat vehicles which we know contributed to saving the lives of many soldiers.
Fred was an avid gardener. You could always find him in his orchard with a sprayer, a ladder, or a pair of loppers. His many activities included building his own house and traveling the world, visiting countries in 6 continents and most states with his wife. He was known to be someone that could build or fix anything. He enjoyed playing bridge with friends for over fifty years and nothing made him happier than playing cards with his family. He enjoyed puzzling and playing Hearts with his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of the Havre de Grace Presbyterian Church for many years.
Fred is preceded in death by his father, Arthur, and his mother, Ruth, and his six siblings. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, his three children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
