Frances Allen Whitby, 81, died Thursday, April 13, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Roberson Allen and Addie Mae Connell Allen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Linwood Earl Whitby.

She was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School, class of 1959 and was the manager of Zip Mart on 10 ^th street for many years. She also worked for the City of Roanoke Rapids at the Civic Center in her later years.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Whitby Wall and her husband, Tim of Whitakers, her sons, Andy Whitby and his wife, Angel and Kenny Whitby, both of Weldon; her sister, Gail W. Mainwaring and her husband, Frank of Emporia, VA; her brother, Jesse R. "Buddy" Allen and his wife, Linda of Roanoke Rapids; her two grandsons, Paul and Reid Whitby and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, with Minister Frank Mainwaring officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00-4:30 at the funeral home.
