Obituary

Dorothy Lee Watson Taylor left this life on Friday, July 12, 2024 after a lengthy illness. She died at her home in Gumberry, NC.

Dorothy was the daughter of Robert Cash and Rosa Lee Watson. She grew up in Norlina, NC and was a member of the Norlina High School class of 1952.

After graduation, Dorothy began work as a telegraph operator for the Seaboard Railroad which began a 34 year career serving in numerous North Carolina and Virginia towns as a station clerk operator until her retirement from CSX. In 1957, Dorothy was assigned to the Gumberry station where she met the love of her life, Carl Taylor. They celebrated 65 years of marriage this year.

Dorothy was baptized at Norlina Baptist Church at age 11, but spent most of her life as a member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Northampton County. She lived out her Christian faith through many quiet acts of kindness and service.

Mrs. Taylor was recently preceded in death by her husband, Carl Taylor. Dorothy is survived by her three sons and their wives: Lee (Noel) Taylor, Craig Taylor, and Ellis (Christina) Taylor, and by three grandchildren: Hannah (Alex) Headley, Joy Taylor, and Reagan Taylor, and one great grandchild: Adelaine Headley. She is also survived by her dear sister, Mary Ella Abbott, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday July 15th at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church (near Jackson) at 10AM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Robert Hill officiating.

The family wishes to express its appreciation to the many people who have offered prayers and extended acts of kindness during Dorothy's illness. We recognize with gratitude the invaluable care team of B.J. Avens, Diane Schmeer, Joyce Winston, Evora Miles, Kimothy Parker, Joslyn Rivers and Gentiva Hospice Care.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery Fund (755 Gumberry Road, Garysburg, N.C. 27831) or the charity of one's choice.
