Dorothy H. Williams Mathews left this life to be with her heavenly Father Sunday March 21, 2021.
Dorothy was the daughter of Isaac and Dora Hedgepeth of Halifax county. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arther Williams and L J Matthews and her sisters Bealuah Dickens, Lois Hux, her brothers, Lathan Hedgepeth, Roger Hedgepeth, Ray Hedgepeth, John Hedgepeth, and Rupert Hedgepeth and her daughter, Linda Lawrence, her son, Robert Williams and her granddaughter, Teresa Williams.
Dorothy is survived by daughter Jean Woodley and son Steve Williams, sisters Lillian Ball and Peggy Bishop and brother Mike Hedgepeth along with grandchildren Tracey Messick, Steven Fotta,
Stacey Crickmore, Shannon Hamilton, Michael Williams, Angela Manginelli, Amy Tillery, April Hoggard, and adopted daughter Jannell Best along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Dot was considered by all as the "Rock" of the family. Her greatest desire in life was to serve God, her family and her community.
Through the years she has served in many capacities including the following: Aurelian Springs school committee for ten years, Halifax County school board, President of Halifax County Home extensions four years, President of the Darlington Extension club, served in the North Roanoke WMU for Twenty-eight years, and taught Sunday school in Halifax Baptist church for twenty-two years. In addition, she and her Husband L.J. Matthews served two terms as missionaries to the Island of Guam.
Dorothy will be sorely missed by all who were ever associated with her over the years.
A viewing will be held Saturday March 27, 2021 starting at 12:30pm at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids,
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM in the Askew Funeral & Cremation Services.
Internment will be in the Community Center Baptist Church Cemetery.
