Harvie Dianne Shearin Kidd, 80, passed away unexpectedly on May 26, 2026 at Atrium Health of High Point. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Wray Kidd on April 23, 2026.
Dianne was born on December 24, 1945 in Roanoke Rapids, NC to the late James Wallace Shearin and Livvie Modlin Shearin of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Dianne was named after her late uncle, Latt “Harvey” Harris Shearin, Jr. who was killed in World War II during Battle of the Bulge.
Dianne was a 1964 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School. She married Thomas Wray Kidd on March 27, 1964. After graduation, Wray and Dianne moved to Newport News, VA. Dianne worked as an office assistant. Wray and Dianne moved back to Roanoke Rapids briefly before moving to High Point, NC where they happily resided for over 50 years.
Dianne was very talented and was best known for her beautiful home decor skills and heavy involvement in the High Point Furniture Market. She was recognized by many world renowned furniture designers. Dianne worked with Lam Lee Furniture in which she employed many people to assist with nationwide buyers in purchasing high end home furnishings. A very successful entrepreneur as a planning consultant, Dianne would acquire rental homes for furniture buyers from all over the world during the furniture market.
Dianne was a loving and devoted wife to Thomas Wray. They enjoyed entertaining in their home, dancing, going on cruises, and casinos from Cherokee to Atlantic City, many times with her cousin Carolyn and her husband, Marvin Garrett. She enjoyed spending time with family, including her Modlin cousins from the Plymouth area. Dianne helped keep the family close with her phone calls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Julian W. Shearin; sister, Norma Shearin Capps and her husband James “Bud” Capps; cousin, Cathy Holloman; in-laws, William and Audrey Kidd; and brother-in-law, Michael Kidd.
Survivors include nephew, Michael W. Shearin (Jan) of Halifax, NC; nieces, Carol Capps Hahn (Richard) of Bracey VA, Shannon Kidd Santos (Mike) of Mebane, NC, Michelle Brown (Richard) of West Jefferson, NC; her uncle, Raymond Modlin of Plymouth; brother-in-law, William Kidd (Carol) of Seaboard, NC; sister in law, Dot White of Mebane, NC; cousins, Carolyn Shearin Garrett (Marvin), Garland Holloman, Alonza Harris (Ann), Brenda Butler (Tony), Earl Ricks (Debbie); great nephews, Michael W. Shearin, II, Dylan Santos, Greyson, Cameron, and Jackson Kidd; lifetime friends and neighbors, Rick Tolbert and family of High Point. Dianne is survived by her beloved Great Pyrenees, Gracie, whom she adored.
Friends and family will gather to honor Dianne’s life and memory on Friday May 29, 2026 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services, 731 Roanoke Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM followed by the funeral service in the chapel at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
