Curtis Rhem Turner, Jr., 90, a dedicated family man, died peacefully with his family at Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, North Carolina on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

The graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The Stephenson Family Farm cemetery is located at 4817 Jackson Bypass Road, Garysburg, North Carolina 27831. The Reverend Scott Wilkinson will preside.

Curtis was born in Weldon, North Carolina on October 2nd, 1935. Curtis graduated from Weldon High School and then attended both North Carolina State University and University of Richmond. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and a member of the United States Army Reserves.

After college, Curtis returned to Halifax County and joined his father, Curtis Rhem Turner, Sr., at the family business, J.S. Turner & Son. Following his father’s death, Curtis assumed leadership of the company and began what would become a long and distinguished career in the lumber and building supply business. Under his leadership, Curtis earned respect and loyalty from his employees through his dedication and unwavering support and genuine concern for those who worked alongside him.

Curtis was a board member of Halifax Academy, Branch Banking & Trust Company, and Weldon Savings and Loan. He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Weldon and served on the vestry.

Curtis loved to play golf, hunt, fish, listen to music, dance, play the drums and was an avid sports fan. He and his wife, Linda, enjoyed spending time at their home in Southern Shores on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Curtis was a member of Chockoyotte Country Club and a founding member of Duck Woods Golf Club. They also enjoyed many winters in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

His greatest love was his daughters, granddaughter and his wife of 68 years.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Curtis Rhem Turner, Sr. and Ernestine Wommack Turner, his two sisters Ernestine Turner Wyche and Jane Bryan Turner Medlin and his nephew Gordon Vincent Wyche, Jr.

He is survived by his wife Linda Stephenson Turner, daughters Karen Turner Young (Bob), Heidi Turner Parker (Greg), Lindy Turner Wyatt (John) and granddaughter Virginia Adeline Wyatt. He is survived by his nephews Scott Taylor Wilkinson and Dean Patrick Edwards and nieces Jane Curtis Wyche and Jacqueline Medlin Greene.

The family extends a special thanks to his “Dream Team” caregivers: Denise, Liz, Melissa, Mimi, Priscilla, Rena, Shelia, Tara and Towanda, for their compassion and support. They are also grateful to the staff and nurses at Cypress Glen Retirement Community for their care and service.
