Carolyn P. George, born on August 9, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland, left this world peacefully on December 5, 2025 at her home surrounded by her beloved family. Raised in Gordonsville, Virginia, Carolyn's vibrant spirit and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her.
A passionate individual, Carolyn possessed a deep love for fishing, nurturing her plants, and expressing her creativity through drawing. Her affinity for animals was evident in her affection for her pets, Bo and Lee, along with many others she cared for throughout her life. Carolyn embodied an inviting charm that made her never a stranger to anyone; her engaging conversations and outspoken nature left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to cross her path.
Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband, David George of Roanoke Rapids. She was a loving mother to her daughters, Angela Abernathy (Jimmy) of Delco, NC and Genevieve Stonestreet of Roanoke Rapids, as well as her sons, Michael Abernathy and Richard Abernathy of Roanoke Rapids. She cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, providing love and support to her descendants.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris P. Michell, her father, Edward M. Payne and her brother, John E. Payne. Carolyn's legacy is enriched by the memories of her late son, Timothy B. Sellars and her grandchildren, Christopher Burton, Robert Croom, and Samantha Bromley (Abernathy), who will forever hold a special place in her family's heart.
Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her, leaving behind a tapestry of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will continue to resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
