Betty Hazelwood Spence, 86, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Saturday October 15, 2022 quietly at her home, bravely fighting a lengthy illness.

She was a native of Halifax County and was the daughter of the late, John David and Mable Jessie Jordan Hazelwood. She was retired from Halifax Community College after 34 years of service and spent her remaining years at home with her constant companion, Greta Bichon Frise.

She is survived by her children, Terry C. Solovieff of Raleigh, Charles F. Conwell and his partner, Lorin Hagedorn of Roanoke Rapids and Elizabeth C. Robinson and her husband, Timmy of Roanoke Rapids; three grandchildren, Nicholas V. Solovieff, Heather C. Allen and Holly J. Conwell.

The family will have a private memorial service.
