Barry Frederick Skaggs, 75 of Halifax, North Carolina passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023.

He was born in Ansted, West Virginia on March 22, 1947 to the late, James Garland Skaggs and Wilomene Welch Skaggs.

Barry served his Lord and Savior as a Southern Baptist Minister for over thirty-five years, as a teacher for fifteen years and as a chess coach while he was teaching. He loved reading, photography and playing solitaire on his phone.

Barry is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, June N. Skaggs; his sons, Sean Skaggs and his wife, Amy, Gabe Skaggs and his wife, Jennifer; his daughter Holly Skaggs; his grandchildren, Lincoln Skaggs and his wife, Olivia, Landen Skaggs, Levi Skaggs and his wife, Jeimy and Grayson Skaggs; his great-grandchild Gianina Skaggs; his sister, Cathy Roberts and her husband, Brenzil Roberts; and his aunts, Kathleen Trippany and Rosemary Carr.

Memorial Services to celebrate Barry's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2023 with Sean Skaggs officiating at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services 731 Roanoke Ave. Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina 27870.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 PM until service time.
