Ann Hoofnagle, age 89, passed away on August 17, 2026 at Pine Forest Rest Home in Potecasi, NC. She was born in Matoaka, WV on October 11, 1936, daughter of the late Frank and Clara Hall.
She graduated from Matoaka High School and shortly afterwards migrated to Washington, DC to find work. Ann became a telephone operator for C & P Telephone Company where she met her husband, Bill and married him on April 26, 1958. Later in life she worked for Prince George's School System in Maryland as a health aide at Suitland High School and as a registrar at Duvall High. Ann finally left the work force to raise two children, Lutchiae and Lon. Bill and Ann moved to Lake Gaston in 1996 to begin retirement at the lake. Ann went to work at Wildwood Nursery part-time for a short period and then became involved with the Wildwood Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and rose to president. Then on to the Lake Gaston Ladies Club, became a notary public, and joined AARP. At home she became involved with leaded glass creations and became quite proficient. She loved going out on the boat, was a novice skier, and had skied in 5 states plus Canada and Austria. Bill and Ann joined Prospect United Methodist Church in Ebony, VA early on and again Ann became involved serving there.
She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her husband, Bill of 68 years; her daughter, Lutchiae Hildebrand of Gordonsville, VA; her son, Lon Hoofnagle of Roanoke Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Richard Hildebrand and Jessica Steed; and 3 great grandchildren, Lucas, Isla, and Kenna. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank T. Hall and Clara Mae Hall; her brothers, Ernest Hall, James Hall, Robert Hall, Hary Hall, Raymond Hall, and her sister, Betty Milam.
A “Celebration of Life” service will be held on February 5, 2027 at 11:00 AM at Prospect United Methodist Church, 1974 Ebony Rd, Ebony, VA 23845.
