It is with profound sadness that we announce that our loving daughter and devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend Alice Anne Smith returned home to the Lord on March 11, 2021. Alice Anne was born on August 30, 1973 to Robert "Butch" and Mary Margaret Copeland. She graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School with the class of 1991 and went on to study at East Carolina University where she received her Bachelors in the Science in Nursing. She worked in several roles before settling into her life-long career at Roanoke Clinic where she served over 27 years doing what she loved: taking care of others. She supported the community in many ways throughout her life; most passionately supporting the Roanoke Valley Girls softball league and organizing and hosting the annual Roanoke Valley Breast Cancer Coalition among others. She loved to travel the world, meet people, and create memories with her family and friends. Alice Anne is survived by her adoring parents and her beloved husband, William Joseph "Billy Joe" Smith. She is the loving mother of Ashley Hundley and her husband Daniel, Cameron Wilson and his girlfriend Elizabeth Strickland, and Meredith Wilson. And stepmother of Sasha Smith and her partner Brandon Woodard, Daniel Smith, Kalie Smith and her finance Madison Racque, and Dustin Wilson. She is the proud grandmother of Carly Vick, Addison Hundley, Cooper Woods, and Everly Woods. The cherished sister of Robert Copeland Jr. and his wife Betsy. The former spouse of Scott Wilson. The daughter-in-law of Pauline and the late Acey Smith. The aunt of Allison & Matt Maready and Noah Copeland. The niece of Kathy and Leslie Pearson. And many other very loved family members. She is the lifetime friend of Wendy Robinson, Shannon Crawford, Lesha Jordan, Lonnie Harris, Marty Jones, and Dr. Kenneth Robert. She cherished her entire work family, softball family, and so many many others. Alice Anne was our rock and the backbone of our family. We will carry her spirit, strength, and love with us always. Her memory will live on in every life that she has ever touched. A celebration of Alice Anne's life will be held in the Chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids at 2 p.m. Wednesday March 17, 2021 with Rev. Stanley Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30-8 pm at the Funeral Home. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral homes facebook. The family will observe COVID-19 safety protocols and kindly requests that any visitors please wear a mask and socially distance as best as possible. Following the service, the family will receive visitors at 121 River Road North, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
